"This was more than just an awesome, amazing, and memorable weekend, it was a life changing, inspiring, and emotional event that helped form me as a young adult!"
-Meghan, former camper
Camp Amanda offers youth ages 6-17 and adults age-appropriate activities including peer support, grief education and planned activities. Some activities include a candlelight ceremony, a doctor question-and-answer session, and balloon release dedicated to the loved ones who have died.
In addition to these activities, this camp will also work toward specific goals to help participants through their grieving process to: connect with a peer that has experienced the death of a loved one, identify the “normal” signs of grief, identify healthy coping skills for each of the main emotions (mad, sad, scared) of grief, and ensure all campers have identified at least one safe person to go to when they are grieving.
Camp Amanda is held at Wesley Woods Camp and Retreat in Indianola, Iowa.
